I have always despised politicians who claim to be followers of Christ and then say that government should not help the poor. Politicians who preach about love right before they preach about war. And while the hypocrisy is so blatant and in front of our faces, so many people choose to ignore it and support these people. The "Religious Right" has never been religious nor right. So it has been wonderful how, over the last few years, these hypocrites are starting to be called out. And the latest was done by Pope Francis.
"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel." - Pope Francis
How true those words are. It reminds me of what Jesus said.
"Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" - Jesus Christ
Pope Francis is of course talking about politicians who believe in building a US wall to stop immigrants from the south. These politicians are motivated by hate, not love. They are not following Jesus' words. They are following the hatred and fear they have. And while I as an American fully support their right to have this hate and vocalize it, I am happy that it is becoming harder for these hypocrites to hide that hatred behind a bible.
