Thoughts on Politics
When responding to an 'Arena Rant' today about Ron Paul, I started thinking. While he has been very upfront about his plans, I still don't have a clue what they really mean. More specifically, I don't understand how they would affect me or how they would affect you.
Let me state that, while I don't know if I think he is the best candidate, I think Ron Paul is the most interesting candidate. I find him to be the most honest about what he would do if elected president. He is the most honest in years. He also seems to be the only candidate that actually believes in something today, and continues that belief tomorrow. He does not flip. He does not flop. While I admire these qualities, I still feel that I don't have a clue about what his policy changes would mean to me and all other average American citizens.
On his website, Ron Paul gives us a very detailed view of on his "Plan to Restore America" (http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/ron-paul-plan-to-restore-america/). After a quick overview, I found it to be a very sound plan. But why? I think it seems sound simply because the numbers add up. More specifically, the numbers add up to a surplus by 2015. That sounds great. Right?
What are not detailed in this plan are, well, the details. It states that he would eliminate the Department of Energy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Interior, and the Department of Education. That sounds like a lot. I unfortunately don't know what these departments do, how they affect my life today, and how things would be different if they were abolished. This is the story I want to hear. These are the details I need. It is very easy to abolish things in an Excel worksheet until the numbers come out right. It's a lot harder to go up to a person, look them in the eye, and tell them you are taking something away from them. This is a major concern for me.
This inspires a more diabolical thought. Maybe Ron Paul has made his plans public in a massive conspiracy intended to fool the likes of me into believing he is the upfront honest candidate when his real motive is to trick me into a false sense of security where I no longer question the effects of his changes and I simply follow him blindly...Or maybe not.
Still, he continues to interest me. He continues to stand at the head of the pack. And I continue to worry. How do his plans affect me? How do they affect you? If anybody knows, please drop some knowledge.
